 About TEC

TEC – Täby Extreme Challenge is an ultra running race in the north part of Stockholm, Sweden. TEC as it’s called is arranged for the 12th time 2020 and we can offer you 50 miles both a day and a night race, 100 miles and 200 miles and a Backyard Ultra.

The race track is on mostly gravel and some kilometers with single track in the forrest, some asphalt occeurs. One lap is 11.5km so you will run 7, 14 or 28 depending on your choise of distance!

For the distance “Backyard” it will be a lap of 6,7 km and you start at 17th of April 18.00 (06.00 pm) and the second lap starts 19.00 (07.00 pm) and continues like that until it’s one runner left.

Our race is a part of The 5 Continents Grand Slam 100 miles and represents Europe, we are so proud and if you are a part of that you also get a discount on the registration fee!

We are also in the Swedish 100 miles Grand Slam with three other ultra races in Sweden, if you complete all four you will get a price.

Event details and schedule

When?

200 miles: The start is at 10:00 AM the 17th of April and the finish closes 54 hours later, 04:00 PM19th of April.

50, 100 miles: The start is at 10:00 AM the 18th of April and the finish closes 30 hours later, 04:00 PM 19th of April.

50 miles night: The start is at 00:00 AM the 19th of April and the finish closes 16 hours later, 04:00 PM 19th of April.

TEC Backyard: The start is at 06.00 PM the 17th of April and the finish is when there’s only one runner left.

TEC as Qualifying Race

TEC is a qualifying race for Western States 2021

Race area:
Start and finish are at Ensta Krog in Täby and there is changing rooms, toilets, showers and a sauna.
Ensta Krog is located 1200 meters northeast of the mall Taby Centrum.

Bibs

200 miles, you can get your bib on Friday morning at the start area at Ensta Krog from 08.00 AM

50, 100 miles  runners, you can get your bib on Friday from 08.00 AM until 15 minutes before your start time.

Information before the race
We will hold a short briefing 15 minutes before the start, first in Swedish and afterwards English. For those of you who will attend to the dinner the night before you will be given the information then as well.

Dressing
Changing rooms with showers and sauna are available at Ensta Krog. As a complement, there are three heated outdoor toilets.
Note that it may be a bit crowded in the locker room just before the start and there are not only runners from TEC that has access to the changing rooms.

Bags
Runners’ bags may be stored in the tent outdoors in direct connection to Ensta Krog, look for signs with your distance.
Note that the bags should not be stored inside the house!

Changing the distance
It is permitted to change the distance during the race (both ways).
Swedish records can only be set at the distance runners signed up for.

Dropping out the race
Notify the race officials at the aid station if you break.

Maximum time
The maximum time is 54 hours for 200 miles, 30 hours for 50 and 100 miles distances and 16 hours for 50 miles night runners. You are NOT aloud to go home/to the hotel during the race and then come back the day after and continue running, then you’ll get disqualified.

Refreshments
The race has a fluid and food control, it is located in the tent at Ensta Krog and you will pass here every ~11.5 km.
We serve a simple basic service consisting of water (hot and cold), salt tablets, chips, bananas, sandwiches and
some hot food in the evening.

Mandatory equipment

During day

  • Working mobile phone
  • The runners are expected to carry liquid and food / energy that is enough for a lap, if needed.
  • The choice of clothes must be adapted to the prevailing weather conditions.

During night (includes the day equipment)

  • Head light and also simple replacement bulbs and spare batteries has to be taken with you at night
  • Good reflexes, preferably reflective vest
  • After dawn also includes emergency blanket (aluminum version). Emergency Blanket can be purchased in many places (eg. Pharmacy, Intersport, Addnature).

Pacer
Pacers are allowed from 08:00 PM at Friday for 200 miles runners and from 08:00 PM on Saturday for all other runners or after the participant reached 100 km, depending on what
comes first.

Pacers always starts at the Ensta Krog. A runner may have only one pacer at a time. It is not permissible for the pacer to carry things for the runner or otherwise physically help
the runner forward.

Pacer must sign up when he / she comes to the race area so that the staff know’s it.

Communications
From Stockholm Central Station, take the subway towards Mörby Centre, get off at the Technical University (Tekniska högskolan), go up to Roslagsbanan, Östra station, at your left after the stairs. Get off at Galoppfältet, go along Kemistvägen, pass Statoil and walk about 500 meters and you will cross a road and see Ensta Krog on the other side of the road.

Parking
We do not recommend driving a car after the race. Rigid and cramping muscles can cause problems and
reaction time is longer because of fatigue. A runner is advised rest for at least six hours before he / she
sits at the wheel.
The limited number of parking spaces that are directly adjacent to the start / finish is
reserved for officials and the general public who want to exploit exercise yard.

Friday the 17th of April, at self cost 185 SEK. Send an email to tec@tec100.se to register for the dinner. There will be an ultra runner as a guest speaker during coffee. You pay at the hotel and not to TEC!

Sunset: 20.00. Sunrise 05:49. The birds begin to sing around 4:30 if the weather is nice.

Rules

  • Cheating, not to behave in unsportsmanlike ways
  • Failure to pass the railroad in a dangerous manner, and not to behave in an unsafe manner
  • Not to litter
  • Using tools such as sticks and the like, and deviate from competition area is not allowed.
  • Helping a runner in distress is required.
  • The officials have the right to disqualify any runner who violate these simple rules, or behaving unsportsmanlike.
  • Although the behavior of a runner any pacer can lead to disqualification of the runner.
  • The organizer has the right to pick a runner of the path of the runner’s health justify it.

Participation is at the runner’s own risk.
